What is Nanotechnology ??
Everything we see around us is made up of atoms, the most basic building block of matter. Now, imagine if we could re-arrange these basic building blocks, these atoms, the way we want it to create something new and something better. Using atoms you could build all kinds of fantastic materials, from huge big aeroplane to tiny Nano sized articles that you cannot see with naked eyes, but they have unique properties. These Nanoparticles can make from brand new medicines to ultra-fast computer chips. Developing new things on this incredibly small scale is called Nanotechnology and it’s one of the most exciting and fast-moving areas of science and technology today. This concept was put forth by the ever-imaginative Richard Feynman, in his famous speech called “There’s plenty of room at the bottom” way back in 1959. Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary science having applications in fields as diverse as medicine, electronics, energy, food and agriculture, fabrics, cosmetics, sensors and many more.
Why we entered into Nanotechnology?
Imagine a big dome having many facets; each having different colored glass through which we can see the outside world. Now it depends on the glass thru which we watch, accordingly we will see the color of the world. Same I can say about Nanoscience and Nanotechnology…..people from different disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology, Medicine, Diagnostics, Defense, Computing, Astronomy, Cosmetics, Electronics, Food technology, Agriculture, Commerce and so on….) have seen and interpreted the Nano world differently. There are even scientists who think that nanofoods could be used to trick the body into feeling fuller for longer, stopping us from overeating.
